Meet Quinn- JDRF One Walk-Central Wisconsin Youth Ambassador

in

JDRF is proud to announce that Quinn is the 2015 JDRF One Walk-Central Wisconsin Youth Ambassador. We got to spend some time with Quinn asking him questions about his involvement with JDRF.

JDRF: Quinn, tell us more about your diagnosis with T1D?

Quinn: Diabetes has been a huge part of my life since the age of one. Technically, I was diagnosed just before my second birthday. I have had type 1 diabetes (T1D) for 14 years. I am grateful to have a family that is as supportive. For many living with T1D, it is a day to day struggle to check their sugars, much less give proper amounts of insulin or even afford proper treatments. Recently, my cousin was diagnosed and it just sucks to see another family member get T1D. This is why I continue to participate every year. Life would be so much more pleasurable without type one diabetes. I may not be able to cure it myself, but I will continue to do all I can to help the cause till we turn type one into type NONE.

JDRF: How long have you and your family been involved with JDRF and what motivates you to continue fundraising?

Quinn: I have been participating in the Walk for 13 years and will continue doing it until a cure is found. We always increase our goal every year, so our goal is to raise more than the $6,000 we raised last year! In order to succeed in this, my grandma and I often advocate for diabetes education to local groups such as the Women’s Club and Primrose. This will educate others about the disease and we often have individuals donate to JDRF.

JDRF: Quinn, why is being the 2015 JDRF One Walk Youth Ambassador important to you?

Quinn: It is important to me to be the Youth Ambassador for this because I hate diabetes and the large majority of people that have it are children just like me. I play sports and know that it can be a pain to do all of that with diabetes. Most kids just want to live normal kid lives without having to deal with the stress of diabetes. I understand what they are going through. I understand that it needs to stop and if this is what I can do to help, I’m going to do it.
