Join Team Northeast Wisconsin at a Ride to Cure Diabetes

Long-time JDRF-supporter, including board member from 2011 to 2015, Kent Altmann is again contributing his talent and experience to JDRF, but in a different capacity.

“It is my pleasure to join the Northeast Wisconsin JDRF Chapter Ride to Cure coaching team this year. I have participated in six LaCrosse rides and one Death Valley JDRF ride. I have been living with T1D for 33 years.

In the early days, I would mix two types of pork insulin for injection twice a day, and wait three minutes for blood sugar results. I couldn’t have imagined then, the advances in blood glucose management we would see in 2015. I now use the OminPod® system for continuous insulin delivery and a Dexcom® glucose sensor, so I always know what my blood sugar is. Almost certainly, these advances would not have been possible without the research efforts funded by JDRF.

I began serious cycling six years ago when I decided to ride in La Crosse. I was surprised to learn how versatile the sport is. I can ride alone, with a group, or with the family. And with the right gear, I can enjoy outdoor riding about eight Wisconsin months of the year. Of course, there are fitness benefits too!

Join me this year as we continue the pursuit of Type One to Type None. Challenge yourself, your friends, and your family, to ride and/or fundraise for JDRF.

I live in Appleton with my wife, Jennifer (also a Ride to Cure rider), and my two daughters, Lily and Claire.”
